Jack: Excellent question. I found the Pinyin transliteration on a site that didn’t list the actual Chinese characters. It’s supposedly “yellow grouper,” which I thought was fitting for this ship. The more common form seems to be “qing ban” (which still doesn’t answer your question about the first character), but I liked the way the longer version sounded. :-)
