LEGO to Make Official Ghostbusters Set [News]

Ghostbusters will be the next official Cuusoo set, LEGO announced today on the blog for the Cuusoo site. Cuusoo is a LEGO website that allows fans to submit ideas to LEGO. If an idea garners 10,000 votes, LEGO will examine if they are able to turn the idea into an official set. Several sets gained the requisite votes in the last review session, but thus far only fan Brent Waller’s Ghostbusters project has been confirmed for transformation into an official set. Another Ghostbusters project also reached the 10,000 vote mark, but LEGO has decided to only pursue Waller’s project, since it reached the vote threshold first, and the model designers liked the car better.

We don’t know yet what the final set will look like, since, as is the case with all Cuusoo projects, it is the idea, not the specific model, that LEGO has agreed to produce. Pictured above is Waller’s Ghostbusters model.

“Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!”

I’m thrilled! Also, damn it, LEGO… Stop making great licensed sets so I can actually complain about the lack of original IP in CUUSOO sets.

That said, I am sad that the FTL project didn’t pass muster, although I suppose I didn’t expect that it would make it to an official set. Also curious is the continuing evaluation of the Female Minifigure set – will we see another set announcement soon (or maybe polybags or part of a Collectible fig series)?

Congratulations Brent! You must be so excited to get this news.

Every AFOL in Australia will have to buy six sets to show their support.

    Well done.

Wow great choice! It’s interesting that they seem to have taken someone’s concept for the Ecto-1 + figs but gone with someone else’s design for the Ecto-1… it’ll be interesting to see how close the final design is to the submission.

I’m sad about the Landrover. Happy that the female figs are still under consideration (but a little sad that it does need to be considered to start with).

And finally, what’s happened to Tim Courtney? Doesn’t he usually do these announcements? (Not that Sara didn’t do a perfectly good job or anything, just wondering about Tim).

Is CUSSO Danish for pathetic nostalgia or something?

So it seems lego are going to do ALL of the 80’s franchises not currently being produced by a competitor.
    Upcoming predictions are:
He-man (It pretty much already exists).
    Krull.
    Ulysses 31/Cities of Gold.
    Police Academy
Tron, though its recent iteration would make the license hard to acquire.
    Henry’s Cat
    Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors
    Bergerac
    Ever Decreasing Circles
    Super Ted
    The Last Starfighter
    Flight of the Navigator
    The Neverending Story
    Till Death do us Part
F’it. If its a largely lapsed IP Lego will bump other more important sets that feature reasonable representation of gender diversity. The only female characters in GB are a girlfriend and a secretary and coz the station isnt being produced they wont feature in the set.
I’m annoyed (could you guess?) that the professional women sets are delayed (bumped) further still. Maybe Lego are having to look into the idea that there are women who arent young lipstick wearers or wrinkly old ladies. Can you imagine such a thing as a middle aged female minifig that implied a career? Or dressed/printed in anything other than a nice blouse???!! Gross. Thankyou Lego for sparing us the old crusty ladies in favor of the Ecto 1.
