Here’s your first look at the latest set in the popular Winter Village series, 10249 Winter Toy Shop. Now, some of you may be scratching your heads, wondering why this looks so familiar: this set is a re-release of 2009’s 10199 Winter Toy Shop. This time around LEGO has swapped out a few colors, and added a few pieces, bringing this version to 898 versus the original’s 815, which is apparently enough to justify a $20 price bump. It will retail for $79.99 USD, available beginning in October.
It is disappointing that LEGO won’t be releasing an all-new Winter Village set this year, but should make folks happy who missed out on the Toy Shop the first time around. Let us know in the comments if you think a re-release like this is great for fans, or just disappointing. Don’t forget to pick up the last several Winter Village sets, which are still available: 10235 Winter Village Market, and 10245 Santa’s Workshop.

As someone who already has this set I find it disappointing that it is being reissued, especially looking so similar to the original. At least with the Star War sets that were reissued, they looked better than the originals.
But if I didn’t have the set and was in to getting it I’d be grateful for only a 20 dollar price hike compared to what second sellers might be trying to get for it.
i agree its a bummer that there isnt a new one. however i missed the last one so this will give me an opportunity to pick that up and not worry about having to get two some how. i like new ones but i get it that not everyone either picked up on the sets or didnt “have kids to buy them for” previously.
i hope this isnt a sign that Lego feels they have completed the village. indicated by re-release and starting over. i have been using most of the winter village sets as buildings for my “old town” portion of my train layout and need some more buildings to intersperse.
i dont mind if they re-release an old one every so often to help others catch up. i have always viewed these like those ceramic light up villages that they sell for christmas time. i dont use them like that but its cool that you could. especially if you managed to get the winter train set they had.
That is really disappointing. Darn Lego, I’ll still buy it. But won’t open it. I’ll have to come up with something new to add to my holiday MOC!
I think it’s a good idea to have re-released this set. As others have said it’s good to re-release to allow people to ‘catch up’ without the high cost of the secondary markets. For those of us with the first release, it’s easy enough to swap a few colors during the build and ‘re-purpose’ the shop. (Another idea is to flip the build horizontally). But wow – Winter Village and Advent sets already – Christmas is nearly upon us again!
