LEGO reveals Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 2 [News]

LEGO has revealed the full line-up from the much-anticipated second Disney Collectible Minifigures series, including characters from Frozen, Hercules, Aladdin, Nightmare Before Christmas and more. The collection includes 18 characters from many beloved Disney films and will be available from LEGO and other toy retailers starting May 1st for $3.99 US | £2.99 UK | 4.99 CAN.

Hot off the heels of the LEGO Ideas Steamboat Willie set announcement, it might as well be Disney week in all things LEGO. We have your first look at all the new Disney minifigures right here, including close up photos of each character.

Three years ago, LEGO launched the first Disney Collectible Minifigure series with characters from The Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan among others. Since then, LEGO fans have been able to collect even more Disney minifigures from 71040 Disney Castle, the Juniors Incredibles 2 series, and multiple Disney Princesses in LEGO Friends form. Now, a new batch of 18 characters are joining the Disney LEGO line-up.

Frozen

Anna and Elsa make their first appearance in minifigure form with their classic looks from Disney’s 2013 animated film, Frozen (most likely in anticipation of the upcoming sequel this winter). Elsa looks ready to sing “Let it Go!” with her braided blonde hair pulled to one side, an over-sized snowflake crystal in hand and a shimmering gown and cape. Anna comes with a lantern, cape and braided hair as well, looking ready for a journey through the snow. Each has an alternate winking face (photos in the gallery below).

The two sisters have previously been included in sets like 41148 Elsa’s Magical Ice Palace but in the more sculpted Friends-doll form, along with Olaf, Sven, and a few other friends from Arendelle. Elsa and Anna have been released as LEGO BrickHeadz as well.

Hercules

Coming from the Disney Renaissance era, 1997’s Hercules is represented with the titular hero and Hades. Hercules goes full zero-to-hero with wavy locks and headband, a shield with Zeus’ emblem printing, as well as a sword. Hercules has an alternate, more determined face (in the gallery below). Hades is a bit hot-headed with his iconic blue-flame hair and smokey lower half, almost reminiscent of Ursula’s tentacles from the first Disney minifigure series. He holds two orange flames and sports a malevolent, toothy grin.

Aladdin

Heading into a whole new world, Princess Jasmine and Jafar are included from 1992’s animated film, Aladdin (again, likely because of the live-action remake in theaters this summer). Jasmine appears in her classic blue outfit and holds an adorable pet dove. Jafar looks more menacing with raised eyebrows, black turban and robes as well as his magical staff. Jafar also comes with an alternate unimpressed facial expression (in the gallery below).

Jasmine has appeared in Friends mini-doll form before in 41161 Aladdin and Jasmine’s Palace Adventures. Rounding out the cast, Aladdin and the Genie were included in the first Disney minifigure series, leading to perhaps one of the only Disney films with a complete line-up of LEGO minifigure main characters with the exception of The Incredibles.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Stepping into the stop motion animated world of The Nightmare Before Christmas, Jack Skellington and Sally make their debut in LEGO minifigure form (they were previously made into BrickHeadz as well). Jack smiles with his skeleton grin along with his bat-like bow tie and black-and-white pin-striped tux and tails. He is “making Christmas” with an elaborately printed gift box stuffed with clear printed snowflake tiles. Sally the rag-doll has her sleek dark red hair and printed patchwork clothes, and a comes with the black flower she used to see a vision of a not-so-merry Christmas in the film.

The Incredibles

In conjunction with last year’s summer blockbuster Pixar movie, The Incredibles 2, LEGO released a small line of Junior sets based on the film. This rounded out the full Parr family of superhero minifigures building on Mr. Incredible (and his nemesis Syndrome) who were included in the first Disney minifigure series. LEGO is now filling the gap of missing characters with fan-favorites Frozone and Edna Mode. Frozone looks like he finally found his cool super-suit and flashes ice-making powers while riding his rounded snowboard. Edna sports her over-sized glasses and grin, and comes with short legs, a teacup and a shopping bag with her personal printed logo. (Edna also has an alternate bemused look, seen in the full photo gallery below.)

Edna has actually been made in a very simplified minifigure form once before in a hard-to-find promotional polybag that was a GameStop gift-with-purchase for pre-orders of the LEGO Incredibles 2 video game. Frozone has previously been made in BrickHeadz form along with Mr. Incredible.

DuckTales

Moving from Disney films to animated TV shows and cartoons, next up is the multi-billionaire Scrooge McDuck and his scrappy nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie. The gang from DuckTales are experiencing a bit of a Renaissance themselves with the incredibly successful rebooted TV show on the Disney Channel. Scrooge McDuck is wearing his top hat and spectacles, and holds his number one dime and cane. Huey, Dewey and Louie are clothed in their classic red, blue and green shirts and hat, and look like they are ready to solve a mystery or rewrite history with their Junior Woodchucks Guidebook, slingshot and flashlight.

Looking at the entire Disney duck family, Donald and Daisy Duck were included in the first minifigure series as well as 71040 Disney Castle.

Classic Disney

Next up are Chip ‘n Dale, the duo of adorable chipmunks featured in many classic animated Disney cartoons. While they don’t sport their outfits from the old Saturday morning favorite, Rescue Rangers, the gumshoes have new bendable medium legs (thankfully not printed so the uncommon part can be easily re-used elsewhere). Chip has brown smooth fur and is holding an acorn, while Dale has ruffled hair, a big red nose and goofy smile. He is holding a bag to collect all those acorns.

Of course, no Disney minifigure series would be complete without an appearance by the main mouse himself. Vintage Mickey Mouse and Vintage Minnie Mouse wrap up the collection in black-and-white, hearkening back to the classic cartoons like Steamboat Willie that Walt Disney himself voiced and animated. Mickey has a tall nautical hat and holds ships’s wheel, while Minnie wears a flowery hat and polka-dot skirt and holds a life preserver. Echoing the minifigures from set 21317 Steamboat Willie, these are slightly different lacking the metallic silver accents and instead coming with white shorts and shoes instead of grey.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse have appeared several times in LEGO minifigure form, headlining the first Disney minifigure series as well as showing off more formal attire in the 71040 Disney Castle.

Has there been any rumor of like with the last set, there will be 3 complete sets per box, one per row? We found that to be true on an unopened case on the last release on an AFOL day.

  2. Chuck T.

Surprised (not disappointed) by Scrooge and nephews as well as Chip and Dale. Gotta leave some AAA characters for series 3 I guess.

  3. Håkan

@Chuck T. Except for the DuckTales reboot, Scrooge and the nephews are very popular in Europe due to all the comics produced there. Goofy is still a notable exception, though. I don’t really think his height should have much to do with it.

  4. Johnny Johnson

Does Jafar’s head look like it’s literally the wrong proportions for a LEGO head to anyone else? How is it so… tall?

  5. Principe Peluso

I like the villians. ¿from what date will they be available in stores in other countries of sudamerica?
